Overview
About the area: Meet Moss — an industrial-modern campervan designed with aesthetics to please. Based in her home in Groby, in the heart of Leicestershire, Moss is a quirky campervan ready to whisk you off on adventures that are kind to the planet and just as at home on the open road.

Groby sits on the edge of Charnwood Forest & Martinshaw woods, so Moss couldn’t ask for a better starting point. Just minutes away is Bradgate Park, 850 acres of ancient parkland with wild deer, rocky outcrops, and the famous Old John Tower — a proper “wow” moment for morning walks or a scenic walk around Thornton reservoir a walk favoured by many. Alternatively fancy something higher? Maybe Beacon Hill, one of Leicestershire’s best viewpoints, is a short drive further into the forest.

Closer to home, Groby Pool is a peaceful spot for a gentle stroll with plenty of wildlife to admire, while history lovers can wander the ruins of Groby Castle or step inside the Tudor Groby Old Hall.

Fancy a proper day out? Hop in Moss and head to Kirby Muxloe Castle, a striking ruined fortified manor, History buffs travelling a little further can reach Bosworth Battlefield and Belvoir Castle.

Whether it’s a weekend of forest walks, a slow amble round Groby Pool, or a road trip out to Leicester’s historic sites, Moss is ready to take you there — comfortably, sustainably, and with plenty of character along the way. Description of Beds: Sleeps up to 4 — with a comfortable king-size bed upstairs and additional sleeping space below.

Moss features a king-size bed, slightly adapted to fit snugly within the van’s interior — approximately 150cm wide x 190cm long (based on standard UK king-size dimensions of 150cm x 200cm, gently reduced to suit the space). There’s no weight restriction on this bed, and it comfortably accommodates taller guests too — our owner stands at 6’1” (185cm) and fits with ease. For anyone needing a little extra legroom, the bed also has an extension option, making it adjustable for taller travellers.

Beneath the king-size bed, there’s ample additional sleeping space, ideal for up to two children with a small single mattress or bedding/cushioning supplied — perfect for family adventures without compromising on comfort.

Whether you’re a couple looking for a cosy getaway or a family wanting a bit of extra space, Moss has been thoughtfully designed to sleep comfortably, without skimping on comfort or headroom. Description of Seating: Moss comfortably seats three passengers up front, offering a relaxed and social ride from the get-go. Once parked up, the living area comes into its own — there’s ample room to sit back, unwind, and socialise, with enough headspace for taller guests to stand comfortably (our owner, at 6’1”, moves freely around the rear interior without a stoop in sight).

Please note, Moss does not currently have ISOFIX fittings — but rest assured, safety remains a top priority throughout the van.

Whether you’re travelling as a couple, a small group of friends, or a family after some open-road adventure, Moss offers a genuinely sociable space to relax in, both on the move and once you’ve reached your destination Description of Electrical Setup: Moss is fitted with a practical and reliable electrical setup, offering charging points throughout the van. In the rear, you’ll find two to three charging points, including USB sockets, a cigarette lighter socket, and a dedicated battery point, with a further two charging points up front for added convenience.

Power is supplied via a split relay battery system, which recharges automatically as the van is driven. With a reserve battery capacity of 12.9V, this provides more than enough charge to comfortably power your devices for over 48 hours, even without driving.

Moss doesn’t currently have a hook-up point — but thanks to the self-recharging system, she doesn’t need one. Every journey tops up the battery, keeping you charged and ready for off-grid adventures without relying on campsite hook-ups. Parking: Yes — there’s ample parking available for hirers’ own vehicles. Moss is kept at home, parked behind a gated fence at the rear of the garden, accessible via a private driveway. Hirers are more than welcome to leave their own vehicle here for the full duration of their stay, safe in the knowledge that the space is locked, secure, and monitored by CCTV for extra peace of mind. Kitchen Facilities: Moss comes fully equipped to help you cook up a feast, whether you’re dining in or exploring further afield. Inside, you’ll find a two-burner gas hob along with a stove-top kettle, and there’s also a single gas hob for outdoor cooking, perfect for al fresco meals or campfire-style cooking.

For crockery and cutlery, Moss provides heavy duty stone and aesthetically pleasing mugs, small and large plates, small and large bowls, and a full set of cutlery, along with essential kitchen utensils. There’s also a separate set of off-grid plates, bowls, knives, and forks — ideal if you fancy taking a wander from the van for a picnic, or even heading off for a night’s camping a little further afield.

Additional kitchen kit includes an indoor and outdoor chopping board, large and small frying pans, saucepans and a steamer, plus three dining trays for easy outdoor eating. Cleaning is also covered, with cleaning equipment, cloths, and liquids supplied as standard.

Whatever the plan — a full home-cooked meal in the van or a simple picnic under the stars — Moss has the equipment to make it happen. Bathroom Facilities: Moss features an outdoor shower, connected to the van’s 85-litre underslung water tank, which also supplies the indoor sink. Fresh drinking water is available on tap inside, and a handy pop-out sink is also provided for anyone wanting to take water outside with them.

Please note, Moss does not have an onboard toilet — but toilet roll is supplied as standard for those happy to embrace a little off-grid, back-to-nature adventure along the way. Audio Equipment: Moss comes equipped with a radio and Bluetooth-enabled stereo system, with speakers fitted at the front of the van — easily connected via Bluetooth or AUX cable from any device.

In the rear, guests can also enjoy a Bose speaker, available to connect via Bluetooth throughout your stay, along with its own dedicated charger — so you can keep the music going wherever you end up.

Whatever your soundtrack, Moss has you covered both on the road and once you’ve parked up for the night. Type of Heating: Yes — Moss is fitted with a diesel heater, situated in the rear of the van, keeping things warm and cosy whatever the weather. It’s simple to operate, with a screen display to guide you through, and a remote function that gets the van heated up in just a matter of minutes.

Clear instructions are provided, so you’ll have Moss nice and toasty in no time. The only request is that pets stay off the upstairs bed area, and that guests kindly help look after the interior throughout their stay. Conversion Story: Moss came into my life around three years ago, purchased from a gentleman in London who’d originally taken her on as a project for his own venture — you may even spot “nevan” etched into parts of the interior, a nod to his original business idea and the early stages of her build.

From there, the real work began. Alongside a full-time job in Plymouth, I took on the rest of Moss’s conversion myself — with a little help from friends along the way — fitting the electrics, installing the diesel heater, and adding many of the personal touches you’ll now find throughout the van.

Moss is a true labour of love, built largely by hand, evenings, and weekends. We hope you feel that personality and care in every detail of her design, and that she brings just as much joy to your adventures as she has to ours. About the Owner: I’ve always had a love for the outdoors — whether that’s camping, fishing, or simply carving out time to be closer to nature whenever I can. That connection to the outdoors has been part of who I am for as long as I can remember.

After purchasing Moss a few years ago, I was recommended Quirky Campers by a friend, and it felt like the perfect fit. While I’m not always able to make the most of Moss myself, I love the idea of sharing her with others — so that more people can get out, explore, and enjoy the adventures she has to offer, just as much as I have. Extra Information: As mentioned throughout, Moss comes with a range of lovely added extras — from the rear Bose speaker and cleaning materials, to luxury towels, toiletries, and a stash of coffee, tea, and sugar to keep you going.

There’s plenty more available too, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch when booking — whether you’d like to borrow some fishing equipment or discuss anything else that might help make your stay that little bit easier for you and your family. A paddleboard is also available to hire for an additional fee, along with a few other extras, so just ask and I’ll do my best to accommodate your plans.
