Overview
This is a 2019 VanDoit LIV — a Ford Transit high roof with a full custom conversion. It's been all over and it's the kind of van that spoils you for regular camping.
Power-wise it's set up to go off grid and stay there a while. There's a 400 amp-hour lithium battery bank, 200 watts of solar on the roof, and an upgraded MPPT controller, so you're not constantly checking the battery level like you would in a lot of vans. It has a DC air conditioner that does a great job of keeping it cool. There's also a gas furnace (Espar) that pulls right from the fuel tank, so no propane tanks to mess with for heat. Shore power hookup is there too if you'd rather just plug in at a campground.
For sleeping there's a queen on the main platform, and if you need extra space there's a fold-out twin mattress (available upon request) that sets up on top of the gear slide or room for a hammock (our son's personal favorite). The van's insulated well (floor, walls, ceiling), so it holds temperature better than you'd expect. Up front the seats are leather and the passenger side swivels around, which is nice for hanging out instead of everyone staring out the windshield.
Kitchen's a modular setup — sink, hot and cold running water, drawers for storage. It's got outlets and a big countertop and can run small kitchen appliances like an air fryer or coffee pot. No toilet on board the van.
Outside there's an awning, 3 light bars, all-terrain tires, and an upgraded suspension (Bilstein struts, progressive coils) that makes a real difference off pavement. Forest service roads and gravel are no problem for the van. It has a tow hitch and a bike rack is available as an add on. There is also space for roof storage.
Good fit for a week of trailhead-hopping, a slower road trip, or just getting off grid for a few days without stressing about hookups.
