Overview
Tow it with the car you already own, or let me deliver it and set it up at your campsite. Our Happier Camper HC1 weighs just 1,100 lbs (about 120 lbs on the hitch), so any crossovers and small SUVs with a Class II hitch can pull it; recent guests have towed it with a RAV4 Prime and a Tesla. First-time trailer renters are our specialty: I hitch it up with you, walk you through everything, and stay a text away during your trip. Dogs are welcome.
Why the HC1
This is the retro-styled, double-hull fiberglass trailer that turns heads at every campground. The big rear hatch swings open so the whole back of the trailer becomes a doorway to your view. Inside, Happier Camper's Adaptiv modular system lets you rearrange the space in minutes: a queen bed plus a twin, a dinette for four, or an open floor for bikes, boards and gear. The same cubes double as outdoor seating, storage and an icebox cooler.
Power Wherever You Park
A roof solar panel keeps the onboard 1 kWh lithium battery charged, and we include four Jackery portable power stations (a 1000, two 500s and a 240) with a folding 100 W solar panel to recharge them. The onboard battery runs the 38-quart AC/DC fridge, the 14-inch two-way ceiling fan, the lights and your devices for as long as you want to stay off the grid. At a site with hookups, plug into shore power and use the included electric heater. You can also use the electric heater with the provided Jackery batteries.
Stay a Week, Get the Generator Free
Book 7 nights or more and I'll throw in the portable 2,200 W propane/gas generator for free (normally a $10/night add-on). No need to add it at checkout; just message me after you book and I'll have it ready with the trailer.
Camp Kitchen and Campfire
Morning coffee works even off-grid, since the Keurig runs on the Jackery 1000. Cook outside on the two-burner propane stove and eat at the folding table (pots, plates, cups and silverware included), then settle in around the Solo Stove or the portable propane fire pit (often allowed when wood fires are restricted). Two camp chairs, an awning and blackout curtains are included.
No Tow Vehicle? We Deliver
We deliver and set up within 50 miles of Moorpark, which covers the Malibu beach campgrounds, Point Mugu, Ventura, Ojai, Lake Piru and Castaic Lake. Choose delivery when you book and the trailer will be leveled and ready when you arrive.
Good to Know (So There Are No Surprises)
- No bathroom on board. This is a campground trailer, so plan on sites with restrooms.
- No air conditioning. The fan and insulated double hull keep it comfortable at the coast and in the mountains; plan accordingly for summer desert trips.
- Cozy for two adults, or two adults plus two kids on the queen-and-twin setup.
- Bring your own bedding, pillows and towels. Pots, plates, cups, silverware, a Keurig coffee maker, the fridge, stove, table, chairs and fire pits are provided.
- Your vehicle needs a 2-inch receiver hitch (Class II or higher) and a 7-pin or 4-pin trailer plug. I can supply the ball mount with a 2-inch ball and a 7-to-4-pin adapter if you need them.
- The HC1 has electric brakes that work through the 7-pin plug if your vehicle has a brake controller, but Happier Camper notes the trailer is light enough to tow without one, and most of our guests do. In CA, any trailer under 1,500 lbs is not required to have a braker controller. I've never used it with this HC1, but you're welcome to use one if you have one.
- Flexible pickup: if the trailer isn't out the day before, you can usually pick it up the evening before your trip starts at no extra charge.
- Renters must be 25 or older (our house rule). No smoking, no festivals, no off-roading.
